A large, horizontally long page of visual notes from the graphic medicine 2026 conference describing challenges and solutions for graphic medicine under pressure

As part of the Graphic Medicine 2026 Conference, our friends at Lizard Brain set up long visual facilitation board – a Wisdom Wall – and invited conference attendees to participate in shared brainstorming, thinking, and meaning-making across multiple days. You can see it in motion on their Instagram here and here!

On one side, attendees were asked to share “What challenges most affect your work in graphic medicine or in creating health narratives?”. On the other, attendees responded to the prompt, “What do you believe the solutions to these challenges are?”.

Attendees provided the concepts, exact phrases, and, because this is a comics community, even some of the visual metaphors, which all come together to provide a snapshot of what the graphic medicine community is feeling at a specific moment in time! I (Matthew) have found myself staring at the results for the last few weeks since the conference, thinking about not just how fantastic it is to be in community with each other and understanding and sharing the same challenges and values… but also making note of opportunities and ideas for how we can come together to address these problems in the future.

What stands out to you from this year’s Wisdom Wall? Does anything surprise you? Are there things not here that you expected to see? Are there opportunities that you would love to help us make happen? Please comment on this post and let us know!
