Booster Shot Comics consists of cartoonist and board certified pediatric allergist Alex Thomas and health communication specialist Gary Ashwal. In this week’s episode of the Graphic Medicine Podcast, you’ll hear them discuss their comics project the Stoplight Pain Scale. This project is a great model for how to make a research-based comics-format health intervention.

This week my work was focused on a presentation called “Teaching Science with Comics” I gave to the Chicago Council on Science & Technology last night. In the course of my research, I came across this 2014 list of “The Best Science-Themed Comics.” Among them are Brighton conference presenters Hana Roš and Matteo Farinella’s Neurocomic.
What Are You Reading?!
This week on What Are You Reading?! Booster Shot’s resident cartoonist Alex Thomas joins me in conversation. He recommends Osamu Tezuka’s Black Jack. Listen to the episode to find out why.
He also gives a shout out to Brian Lee O’Malley’s Seconds.
In addition, we discuss all that the Booster Shot Comics duo has been up to since our July Riverside conference. You can read about and see photos of what Alex discusses on their blog post here.
