Graphic Medicine is very proud to present Camille Aubry’s A Journey to Motherhood. This is  an autobiographical comic book diary depicting the fun and less-fun bits of maternity, from pregnancy to the toddler years, told with dry, and at times caustic, humour. This graphic narrative has been twice long-listed for the Laydeez do Comics Prize and was exhibited at the Representing Realness show in London this summer. A black & white extract of 32 pages, which has since sold out, was launched at the ELCAF festival this year. Graphic Medicine will be showing A Journey to Motherhood, one chapter at at time, in… Read More

The marvellous organisation that is DotMD were kind enough to sponsor our Brighton conference this year. Each year they run a fascinating ‘Festival of Medical Curiosity’ that always sells out well in advance of the date. This year they had moved the event from Dublin to Galway – on the west coast of Ireland – expanded the capacity from just over 100 to 500 delegates and the programme from one to two days. Their changes paid off. The conference was a huge success, tackling the big questions in healthcare and life and introducing the delegates – comprising mostly of doctors or… Read More

From Catriona Laird: CHIP Collective’s first kickstarter project Living With Cancer: Our Stories is a comic anthology featuring 6 real stories from people affected by cancer in some way, whether that connection is a diagnosis of themselves or a loved one or being a medical expert in the field researching or treating the disease itself. Featured in the book also are 6 illustrations relating to either quotes from the stories or relating to CHIP Collective’s ideals. CHIP stands for Comics Help Inform People (highly inspired from the co-founders having burgers and chips at the time of creating the name) which… Read More

Our Graphic Medicine conference – Que(e)rying Graphic Medicine : Paradigms, Practices and Power – was held in Brighton last week. It was a great success. Graphic Medicine 2019 Poster Specifications

I thought I would post the poster specifications for the conference here. Posters should be formatted as below (or approximate these measurements if printers do not hold A1 paper stock)  A1 841 x 594 mm 33.1 x 23.4in    Portrait orientation Posters will be displayed on vertical boards, secured with thumb tacks or with adhesive putty, so you can bring them to the conference rolled in a tube.  Most people create the posters digitally and have them printed, but, in keeping with the Graphic Medicine ethos, handmade/drawn/painted is OK, too.
