Manhwa is a Korean graphic novel. The word “Manhwa” is used for Korean comic books, print cartoons and animated cartoons, and has the same word root as Japanese “manga” (漫画): namely, the Chinese manhua (漫画; this Chinese hànzì has the same Japanese kanji) which means “impromptu sketches” in Chinese. Manhwa is pronounced man-wa. Korean comics are written in similar format as English comics and read left to right.
