Annotation: Smile is a juvenile graphic memoir about a girl dealing with family and school issues. Then on top of all that, she injures her front teeth. The story follows her concerns about various attempts to fix the damage. The art is typical of Raina Telgemeier: fun, easy to digest, and containing beautiful colors. The characters also appear in later Telgemeier books, such as Sisters. The story is based on events in Telgemeier’s life, including her relationship with her sister. While the book is aimed at a younger audience, it’s enjoyable for all ages and is one of few comics to tackle dentistry directly.
