Graphic Medicine 2016: Stages & Pages

July 7-9, Dalhousie Building, University of Dundee, Scotland.

REGISTRATION AND TRAVEL INFORMATION HERE

Keynotes

The theme of this year’s conference, Stages & Pages, invites us to think about comics and healthcare in relation to performance in its myriad conflicting and complementary forms, from the clinical, to the social, and to the theatrical. Both clinicians and patients alike often feel the need to live up to prescribed roles both on and off the medical stage. This conference will consider the various ways in which comics address these issues.

PLEASE NOTE THE SCHEDULE BELOW IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE!

          Hi,

On the registration and travel info link, I found the hotel booking site and the venue info, but no indication of the conference cost itself or how to register…

          Did I miss something?

If I choose to do the workshop, will the participants be supplied, or do I have to find my own?
If supplied, who are they? Members of the public? Students?

Is there an option to submit artwork to the conference? I remember in previous conferences there were some pieces of artwork up for auction.

Details for that should be emerging soon, but as of now I believe the answer is yes.

Wish to make a oral presentation on Comic narratives of stages of life, illness, and the medical career.
However the story is a work in progress currently, does that disqualify it?

No, not at all. Often presentations about works-in-progress are done as lightning presentations.

Is there an access statement? I would encourage participants and attendees to be as scent/perfume-free as possible, if the committee hasn’t already. This was an issue at the last conference, so just offering a friendly reminder.

Hi – yes, this statement has been included at the bottom of emails sent:

“The Comics and Medicine Conference has a fragrance-free policy. Please do not wear or use any of the following during your visit to our facilities: perfume, cologne, body sprays, aftershave, scented lotion, scented hair products, scented deodorants, and similar products. Chemicals in fragrances are associated with a variety of adverse health effects. These health effects include asthma, allergies, sinus problems, skin rashes, and headaches.”

If you have an issue at the conference, please see one of the organizers ASAP.
