As you may remember from our previous post, Center for Cartoon Studies co-founder James Sturm has been working with a team of Harvard students and scholars, Kazimir Lee, and Sam Nakahira on a 32-page comic about the US healthcare system. This work is part of his Radcliffe Fellowship.
Health and Wealth, A Graphic Guide to the US Healthcare System is being created to help the general public better understand how the US healthcare system works in hopes that it will generate discussions around healthcare and healthcare reform. A digital version of the comic book and a study/engagement guide will be available for free online this summer.
To help fund printing and distribution this comic, and to draw attention to the fact that “GoFundMe Can’t Fix Healthcare” the team has created a GoFundMe. Watch the video below to learn more.

While the irony of the GoFundMe is gratifying, it’s ridiculous that an institution as wealthy as Harvard doesn’t pay for the printing.
Given that disabled people interact with the health care system more than nondisabled people, it’s disappointing that we’re not visibly present nor mentioned in the linked extract.
Is the artwork done by Richard Scarry, or just drawn to look like his style?
I am on the board of a non-profit called the Colorado Foundation for Universal Health Care. We are working hard to promote universal health care for the US and Colorado. There will be a report coming out in September funded by the Colo. legislature done by the Public Health Department of University of Colorado comparing the current system, single-payer systems, and a public option system. Check it out! You can guess which system comes out best. I would love to see all the Colorado State Legislators get a copy of your cartoon book. Can you do it if we raise the money to sponsor that?
