#medicineonthewalls

You may remember Ian Williams’s graphic medicine mural executed by object… at the People’s Republic of Stokes Croft, last year. In the last week or two PRSC have been collaborating with Dr John Lee of the University of Bristol @UoBrisIBAMH, on a COVID-19 #medicineonthewalls project. Using their outdoor gallery wall, and their street-art friends, they are making a video-graff message of public health – with their own take. The designs are available for circulation if @UoBrisIBAMH are credited.

Starting with ‘♥ to our NHS Heroes’ by object… (covered by the Guardian, Telegraph and Bristol Live), the wall was painted over three times with different artist’s interpretations of the ‘Stay In’ message (by Ryder, Decay and an anonymous artist), then finally with the message of love and solidarity you see above, with a collaboration between 3DOM & Sepr.

They chose ‘Stay In’ rather than the more widely used ‘stay home’ message, reflecting the high number of people with no homes to go to around Stokes Croft.

Consulting with medical professionals they took every precaution during the making of these works to ensure they didn’t add to the spread of the virus – each of the pieces was painted by artists on different days, and John barely even went to their side of the road.

I am a fine artist and cartoonist. I was previously cartoonist in residence at UCL hospital.

I was interested in your project, as I have been working on a large drawing on the wall of my studio during lockdown in London. It would be ideal for a wall as it contains words I find relevant.

The words in the drawing are

    Where are you?
    Come this Way
    I am Here
You are welcome to join me
    On My own

It contains a message that I want people to see so that we can all feel a sense of community within our isolation.

Please do look at my drawing by clicking on the link below

There are many different walls that could be used in my area. I live in Southwark the worst effected borough in London and St Thomas’ is my local hospital where many people are being treated for COVID-19. Also there are many artists in the area that I would be able to collaborate with.

I look forward to hearing from you

    Judith
