PLEASE NOTE: Our conference hosts in Athlone, Ireland are keen to publish the proceedings of the conference in partnership with the Graphic Medicine Review.  The deadline for receipt of submissions is 25th September 2024.  All submissions must be labelled: As Presented at Graphic Medicine Conference 2024

Here are the GMR Guidelines: https://publishing.escholarship.umassmed.edu/gmr/news/16/

And this the link for Submissions: https://publishing.escholarship.umassmed.edu/gmr/submissions/

Speaking of the 2024 conference, the archive is being assembled – and you can view many photos from the event here.

Join us on Saturday, October 26th beginning at 1 pm EDT for a virtual event that will feature brief updates from the Graphic Medicine International Collective, a panel discussion about publishing graphic medicine, and a chance to get live answers to questions about graphic medicine, GMIC, or anything else comics and health related! A special edition of Drawing Together to follow immediately after.

More details, including a registration link, to come within two weeks time.

From our reviews editor, Kevin Wolf:

“This is the longest review I’ve ever attempted. It’s made up of nine books; done in three parts with three books in each part. The links for all three parts are provided below. All parts are related to the same topic: the generationally traumatic, Unjust Incarceration of Japanese Americans or Japanese Canadians in WWII. One book (By Order of the President isn’t graphic medicine but a history for background; while Un-American is a book of photography, so I loosely consider it to be part of the graphic medicine canon … it’s just not drawn. The rest are drawn illustrated or graphic novel depictions of events.)”

Unjust Incarceration – Japanese-Descended People on the West Coast of the United States & Canada During WWII – Part 1 – Stories from Mostly Outsiders

Unjust Incarceration – Japanese-Descended People on the West Coast of the United States & Canada During WWII – Part 2 – Outsiders Provide Stories about Those Inside

Unjust Incarceration – Japanese-Descended People on the West Coast of the United States & Canada During WWII – Part 3 – Insiders Tell Their Own Stories

Sarah Leavitt’s new book, Something, Not Nothing was reviewed in the New York Times. Click the link below to read the review.

One additional review on the site this week, to Teresa Wong’s new book, All Our Ordinary Stories, which releases next week.

Maravilhoso! Quero fazer um livro também!

I loved it! I should write and draw my book as well!
