Alex Thomas of Booster Shot Comics shared this patient story on Facebook:
A 10 year old patient came in to clinic the other day with a tattered, dog-eared copy of “Iggy and the Inhalers” that I gave him 6 months ago. He wanted to know why “The Roach” was in the trading cards and on the cover of the comic, but not in Issue #1. I explained to him that cockroaches are mainly an allergic issue in apartment buildings in the city, and that we’d have another issue that focused on asthma and allergies in the city. His eyes lit up and he said “COOOOOL!”
THIS is why Gary and I think that comics are a great educational tool! What other patient handout would a kid keep for so long and examine so closely? COMICS (and my patient) RULE.
An interview with Alex and Gary, creators of Iggy & The Inhalers, will be posted as a podcast in the near future.
