Review

by Mark Peterson

This graphic novel is a good tool for dental patients, especially those preparing for root canal or endodontic procedures. It offers clear, comprehensive explanations of the procedures involved, helping patients understand what to expect. Accessible language and engaging visuals may help anxious patients with dental visits and oral surgery. Relatable story and fun graphics of teeth and equipment make the material more approachable and enjoyable.

Though medical credentials (e.g., DDS, DMD) are given, they aren’t defined (Doctor of Dental Surgery and Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry, respectively) and when applied to a specific person only their names are needed. The book often redundantly includes the “Dr.” prefix, as well.

To test what you’ve learned from reading Endodontocomix, there’s a quiz at the back of the book.

The “Did You Know” section provides nine fun historical facts about teeth, while entertaining, is not essential to the main purpose of the graphic novel.
